The Small Wonder is a private organization literature and the arts with non-profit sponsorship through Community Partners. We are a project of Community Partners. Founded in 2005, Small Wonder encourages innovative projects that support the development of culture and creativity in Southern California.

Small Wonder has several areas of focus.

Art and Writing Workshops: low cost, geared for all levels of expertise, focusing on painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking

Art Events: hosted at our studios in Riverside, these include but are not limited to exhibitions, readings, performances, and discussion groups.

• Multipoint US: a self-managed artists working group considering contemporary concerns in visual, performing, and literary arts in a rigorous, experimental way

Small Wonder Press: a small literary press publishing the highest quality, experimental literature and visual works. [com]motion, the magazine published by SWP, had its online debut in January 2008. Submissions and proposals are welcome for ensuing issues.

Residencies: Small Wonder offers residencies to international and national artists who have a collaborative element as an integral part of their practice.

Mission Statement .

The Small Wonder Foundation seeks to support cultural development in the city of Riverside and the Inland Empire of Southern California by providing a quality venue for fine art and literary education, and rigorous creative experimentation, collaboration, and exchange.

We offer art and writing workshops, exhibitions, readings, residencies, and opportunities for collaboration. Our small press publishes books of emerging and known writers, poets, and creative collaborators interested in exploring the possibilities in art and literature with rigor and dedication.

Our Vision .

We are committed to the notion that imagination and knowledge can expand the world. We are greatly influenced by Edward Soja's vision of a Thirdspace world.

He says "thinking trialectically [where a variety of components inform being] is a necessary part of understanding [the] ... limitless composition of lifeworlds that are radically open and openly radicalizable; that are all-inclusive and transdisciplinary in scope yet ... focused and susceptible to strategic choice; that are never completely knowable but whose knowledge nonetheless guides our search for emancipatory change and freedom from domination."
